Agreement with FurrIX

With FurrIX being spun off from MFN and into its own project, theres a loose agreement in
place that benefits both projects and allows them to coexist on the same physical servers
and routers. Mostly in who manages what being clearly defined now.

Marbled Fennec Networks:

  • Provides the two name servers
  • Maintains the IP allocations and leases them directly to FurrIX
  • Maintains the game servers, email and support systems
  • Provides support for their single user tunnels, managed by FurrIX
  • Maintains the web host
  • No longer touches or operates the routing or network VMs
  • Maintains and provides physical infrastructure for both projects
  • Provides financial backing for FurrIX until Jan 20th, 2028
  • Maintains private peering with FurrIX via internal BGP

FurrIX, a Furry Virtual Internet Exchange:

  • Directly leases the /44 and /48 IPv6 allocations without cost from Marbled Fennec Networks
  • Maintains, designs and operates the network that forms the virtual internet exchange
  • Provides and configures networking service(s) for Marbled Fennec Networks without cost
  • Maintains the two name servers
  • Maintains and Provides IP transit and tunneling services
  • Maintains private peering with MFN via internal BGP
  • Focuses solely on being a network service provider

Transitional Items of Interest:

  • Ty Dwagon becomes the owner and operator of Marbled Fennec Networks
  • Adrian/Skylar becomes the owner and operator of FurrIX
  • The two projects provide one another with services that the other needs to function without cost and expectation (think settlement-free peering and sharing of the hardware/virtual environment)

This agreement is in place to the benefit of both projects and the spin off of FurrIX was done to
allow the virtual internet exchange to govern itself and expand at its own pace without approval
or interference from Marbled Fennec Networks, as long as network services are provided to
MFN on an as needed and requested basis. As of this post, FurrIX is no longer a subproject of Marbled Fennec Networks. It is a self governing, standalone project that we have entered into an agreement with for the foreseeable future.

Will we still be seeing the cute banners and VR pictures getting thrown up?

Yea, that won’t be changing. Adrian is still part of the VR crew and her pictures will still be featured on both our website and FurrIX’s. It is cute and we like it, adds a little character to both places.

Decoupling FurrIX from MFN

It is going to take a bit of time to do so, but our volunteers are working on the steps needed to spin FurrIX off into its own project. Doing so will give that project the ability to focus on just networking and being a transit/connectivity provider and will transition MFN into a game services, name server and VPS hosting provider.

FurrIX will be getting its own NMP, TOS and goals as part of this move. That project will be responsible entirely for all of the shared routing gear, network design and transit services. MFN will retain control of the IP allocations but will essentially delegate full network administration to FurrIX for the next two years of operations with some conditions on use and expectations regarding service to Marbled Fennec Networks.

As part of this, Adrian will be giving her position on the board for MFN to Ty Dwagon as they will taking control of Marbled Fennec Networks. Adrian will be moving into a lead position with FurrIX to only handle networking and transit going forward.

Peaking behind the curtain-

Have an animation and get nommed!

We have been busy working on bringing Minecraft and Satisfactory to our services for people to hangout and play alongside one another- This task has been completed and seems to be stable, working pretty well with minimal lag or other problems. If you have issues with any of our game servers, please reach out to Riot, they are responsible for that portion of MFN. The NOC cannot help with the game servers.

We have updated our email policies again to go scorched earth on a certain provider as a whole, hopefully limiting both Adrian’s and the project’s exposure to some things that…aren’t good for her to be dealing with and that our volunteers do not need to deal with. If you have email service with us, you can request overrides for your account.

Our NOC fwoofs are slowly issuing WireGuard profiles to those who requested them. It will be a few days, but you will get your profiles by the end of next week at the latest. We are also raising our data usage limits to 800GB and traffic shaping to allow for up to 400Mbps shared networking until Jan 16th. It is Crimmus season and we know people have steam downloads to make.

DNS RPZ has been updated with more OpenNIC related domains being dropped to hopefully prevent us from being used for malware queries. This is currently a manual process that require log reviewal to keep an eye on whats going on, so it takes a bit to react as the landscape changes but we are making an effort.

We have been getting feedback from the folks who have been helping MFN/FurrIX continue onward. I am hearing what y’all have mentioned and have concerns with, we will be making some changes to how we govern our services and projects. This will be a slow and long road because I am on the road a lot this time of year and need to approve changes before they go live. But yes, the language behind a lot of our policies could be structured better and project goals could be better explained.

Thats the updates from our team, hope you fwoofs have a wonderful day.

Statement on Misuse of Support & Abuse Contact Channels

Our support and abuse contact addresses exist for one reason: to handle legitimate technical issues, service problems, and policy violation reports so Marbled Fennec Networks (MFN) and FurrIX remain safe, functional, and welcoming.

Recently, these channels were used for purposes they are not intended for — including sending threatening and manipulative messages to volunteer staff in an attempt to influence moderation decisions.

This violates the current MFN Terms of Service, which already prohibit:

  • Harassment, intimidation, or targeted personal attacks toward members or staff.
  • Misrepresentation of rules or policy to undermine enforcement.
  • Using official communication lines for anything outside their intended purpose.

We’re in the process of updating our Terms of Service to make these expectations even clearer — complete with short, plain-language explanations under every section — so there’s no room for “creative interpretation.”

To be clear:

  • Support and abuse contacts are not for personal disputes or retaliation.
  • Any misuse of these channels will be fully documented from start to finish, including all metadata.
  • Such behavior will result in immediate and permanent bans, with possible escalation to relevant authorities and internet safety boards.

Our volunteers work hard to keep this community safe and functional. Misusing the tools meant for safety and service undermines that work and wastes resources that could be helping people with real problems.

So let’s keep these channels for their intended purpose: fixing problems, not creating them.
Because if you really want to get our attention, opening a polite support ticket will always work better than firing off your 17-paragraph audition for “Most Dramatic Email of the Year,” complete with plot twists, villains, and an imaginary award speech.
