Hello, from Safety and Guidelines guy!

Hello everyone,

I’m Kyru, part of the Network Operations Center and Community Safety crew, as well as a project member using MFN’s services in my own homelab. Normally, I don’t get involved in the day-to-day running of Marbled Fennec Networks or FurrIX, but something came through our abuse and support inboxes that I feel needs to be addressed.

Recently, there’s been a misunderstanding about our community safety guidelines in the Terms of Service, specifically the clause that states:

>ā€œBe conscious of your well-beingā€¦ā€

This statement does exist in our ToS, but it sits within the community guidelines for participants in MFN/ROA digital spaces—not as an obligation for operators or administrators. It exists to remind members, guests, and event participants to look after their own health (hydration, breaks, etc.) during activities, especially in VR. The only time it’s enforced is when someone shows wanton, flagrant, or repeated disregard for their own safety in a way that demands staff intervention.

In other words: it’s a behavioral rule for attendees, not a standard the owner or staff can ā€œviolateā€ while operating the service. The claim that it applies to operator conduct is simply a misinterpretation taken out of context.

The well-being clause is there to ensure that all members, especially vulnerable ones, are safe and cared for in our spaces. It is not a standard someone can breach by neglecting their own health outside of MFN/RoA events. Our volunteers—including Project Deco’s Safety Officer—enforce this rule in its intended context: protecting the community, without bias.

Looking ahead, Project Deco will be working with MFN and FurrIX volunteers to restructure our Terms of Service so they are clearer and easier to read. The updated format will include:

  • A direct, accurate section for each rule.
  • A short ā€œPlain Englishā€ explanation under each section so members, guests, and users can easily understand it.
  • Specific clarifications that reflect how we actually operate, moderate, and protect our network, provided services, digital spaces, communications, and hosted events.

We recognize that the current ToS can feel vague in places. Our goal with this update is to remove that vagueness, close loopholes, and make it as clear and unambiguous as possible for everyone.

Changes to eMail Server

There may be a few blips in email service today as two of our volunteers will be working on implementing a blacklist on the backend to cut back on some spam.

This should be in effect by 1430EST and should be a seemless change that won’t affect the majority of our users. If you have email addresses that you want dropped, reach out to our support center and let them know, but understand that the blacklist is a permaban from inbound emails once in place. We do not want to play around with mail server too much.

Terms of Service Update

We are working on updating our Terms of Service, please take a moment to read over the changes. The update pushed today includes guidelines and expectations for our digital spaces and online communities.

Website updates and NMP changes

Project members and guest should take a moment to review our Network Management Policy as some of the details within have changed. The changes should not directly affect any connected endpoints but it is better that ya’ll stay informed.

Bigger Changes:
* FurrIX will no longer provide temporary services to public end users; only our members and guest.
* FurrIX will no longer offer peering and cross project routing with other projects. This lessens our workload and lowers the traffic crossing our network.
* MFN has lowered the monthly data bucket to 600GB per month after reviewing the past three months of traffic patterns.

As for our website changes, we have update our about, FAQ and team pages to reflect the current state of our operations. Give those pages a quick read through when you have a moment.
